is a yearly professional network event between artists and curators conceived by Danish curator Solvej Helweg Ovesen and organized by the Nordic Embassies Berlin to strengthen the network between Nordic artists and the vibrant Berlin art scene. It took place for the first time in 2013 and has established itself as a yearly happening since then. GROSSES TREFFEN – Portfolio Review is a one day network event that offers the opportunity for Finnish, Swedish, Icelandic, Norwegian, Greenlandic, Faroese and Danish visual artists to do portfolio presentations and get acquainted with key curators and gatekeepers of the Berlin art scene. The meetings take place in a relaxed yet concentrated atmosphere in the Nordic Embassies Berlin where each artist has the chance to meet serial Berlin-based curators representing a selection of vibrant art institutions, residency organisers, and festival curators and discuss their portfolio on a one-to-one bases. The wide range of artists participating in GROSSES TREFFEN work with all media – sculpture, painting, photography, new media, sound, performance, or art in public space. GROSSES TREFFEN connects Nordic artists, that live in the Nordic countries or abroad – e.g. in Berlin – with international curators active in the dynamic and international Berlin art scene. The reviewing curators on the other hand also get a deep insight into the vibrant and resourceful Nordic art scenes. Due to its great success GROSSES TREFFEN Portfolio Review expands with participating reviewers from renomated art institutions from Leipzig in 2016.
As a new service to anyone who would like to research artists from the Nordic Countries we created a new database of Nordic Artists, meaning select applicants from GROSSES TREFFEN 2013 and the years onwards.

Database

Thanks to the extensive international interest in Nordic artists, GROSSES TREFFEN launches an online database, that makes portfolios available for anybody interested including the professionals such as academics, journalists, curators, cultural producers, artists or teachers. The database consists of submitted portfolios to GROSSES TREFFEN. An international jury selects the portfolios that are made public on this website. This way many Nordic artists will have the chance to present their works to a wide international and professional audience.
